INT. MY HEAD (PARENTS' KITCHEN, BREAKFAST TIME)
An imaginary conversation prompted by a court case. Eating breakfast and talking with my folks about THE NEWS.
MOM
I just don't think courts should
discriminate against jurors - did
you hear about the two people who
were dismissed from Trump's jury
because they talked about the 2020
election?
ME
That's not quite what
happened...they were potential
jurors in the jury selection
process. They showed bias in favor
of Trump. You can't show bias in
favor of or against the defendant
and expect to be put on the jury!
DAD
They didn't show bias. How did they
show bias?
ME
They said they believed the
election was stolen.
DAD
That doesn't make you biased toward
Trump, it's just a fact! I think
it's unconscionable that these
judges call someone biased because
they look at evidence and come to a
conclusion.
ME
Dad, the only people coming to that
conclusion are Trump supporters.
DAD
(interrupting)
Not true! Fox News certainly isn't
supporting Trump like they did, but
they tell the truth about the
election.
ME
Ok.
MOM
You don't need a lot of evidence to
know more people voted for Trump.
Did you see ANY Biden flags or
signs or stickers where you were?
We sure didn't. There were Trump
flags and signs all over, even in
the more liberal areas.
ME
Being a Biden voter isn't like being
in Bills Mafia, Mom! It's about
trying to make rational decisions
about your interests, and voting
for the people who are more likely
to help you. It's not about face
paint and chants and destructive
behavior!
